[CF Devotionals] 2020-01-27 - Who God Is and What He Does

- - - - - -

"But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day." (2 Peter 3:8 NIV)

In an episode of Leave It To Beaver, son Theodore 'Beaver' Cleaver tells his father, “Being a father sure takes a lot of a guy’s time.” (Community Chest episode, season 4) Thankfully God doesn't view His Fatherly role in terms of time.

The Book of Psalms reaffirms that God:

  • is a shield around us and the lifter of our heads. (Psalm 3:3)
  • hears our weeping. (Psalm 6:8)
  • will come. Hope and wait for Him. (Psalm 27:14)
  • stays near the brokenhearted. (Psalm 34:18)
  • has numerous thoughts about us His children. (Psalm 40:5)

God does all these loving and nurturing things without looking at His watch or checking email messages. The sacrifices and amount of time it takes to be our Dad are unimportant and nonexistent to our Heavenly Father.
