Answers may vary, but doubt could be a main reason. We wonder if God will really step in and meet our needs.

Why should we not be afraid?
Answer: God is our God. (Isaiah 41:10)
Why are we afraid?
Answers may vary. We may not know the benefits of having God, as our Lord or we may be unsure God will take care of us.
If we are afraid, what will God do?
Answer: God will make us strong and help and support us. (Isaiah 41:10)
What do you say to someone who is afraid?
Answer: “Be strong; fear not! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, with the recompense of God. He will come and save you.” (Isaiah 35:4 ESV)
What promise can we hold on to and tell ourselves, in the mist of a fearful situation?
Answer: "God is our refuge and strength, a tested help in times of trouble. And so we need not fear even if the world blows up and the mountains crumble into the sea." (Psalm 46:1-2 TLB)
