2019-11-29 - Grateful
I quickly turned the page of my Bible study. It wanted me to look up Colossians 2:7 and Hebrews 12:28, and tell what the verses mean. These New Testament passages advise us to be thankful and show gratitude. Frankly, being joyful and grateful are difficult for me to muster, today.
Out of the blue, my daughter and I woke up with cold symptoms and a fever. I am constantly praying against sickness. We take our multivitamins, practice good hygiene, and eat Granny Smith apples. For some reason, cold germs found their way to our household, and we are stuck with the discomfort and inconvenience. I complained to God, prayed, and believed for healing - but we are still nestled on the sofa with tissue boxes nearby.
On closer inspection, there are a few reasons to be thankful during this sickness wave. My daughter and I have time together, and it's a day off from school. By focusing on the verses and not the situation, I reminded myself colds are temporary and could possibly allow us to avoid a stressful family Thanksgiving gathering.
May you find an opportunity to put these Scriptures to work in your day.
Lord, I can usually see something positive in a situation, but the numerous negative elements usually overshadow the positive. Help me realize You haven't let me down. The Bible is true, You are good. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
