[CF Devotionals] 2019-11-11 - The Eddie Haskells in Life

- - - - - - -

I have often wondered why the Cleavers put up with wise guy Eddie Haskell, on the classic sitcom, Leave It To Beaver. The Cleaver family continuously showed mercy to obnoxious Eddie. Being merciful to annoying people, isn't easy. Sometimes, it can be rewarding. At one point in the television series, the character of Eddie realizes his actions aren't the best. "Yeah, Beaver, when I'm around other people, I can act like a big shot and get away with it. Yeah, but it's not good, in life, for a guy to act like a big shot to himself." (Eddie Spends the Night, season 4)

I know life doesn't always play out like a television show. I am thankful that God freely gives mercy. He wants what's best for us, even when we are ungrateful. The Lord is the ultimate mercy giver.

He freely forgives our sin and guilt, and doesn't stay angry forever. (Micah 7:18)

He always shows mercy to everyone who worships him. (Luke 1:50 CEV)

"God loved us so much that he made us alive with Christ, and God’s wonderful kindness is what saves you." (Ephesians 2:4-5 CEV)

"He saved us because of his mercy, and not because of any good things that we have done.” (Titus 3:5 CEV)

Lord, Thank You for restoring us. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
