2019-05-20 - God's Design
And God said, “Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear.” And it was so. God called the dry ground “land,” and the gathered waters he called “seas.” And God saw that it was good. (Genesis 1:9-10 NIV)
When I was growing up, a trip to the beach was an annual summer event. I loved getting my feet wet, watching the waves, and looking for shells and smooth rocks. It was a great place to watch clouds move.
During all my times at the shore, I never wondered how or why God included waterfront in His Earthly design.
"So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living thing with which the water teems and that moves about in it, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth.” (Genesis 1:21-22 NIV)
On a clear day, I would sometimes see a sailboat in the distance. I'd imagine what it would be like on that boat - decisions of where to go, wondering where the current may lead. The ocean is more than constant, blue folds nested next to sand. The sea is always new, always forgiving. It doesn't remember if I shook my towel too close to sunbathers, or accidentally knocked over an abandoned sandcastle. It always offers peaceful scenery and evidence of an amazing and merciful God.
