2019-01-21 - Gratitude is the Right Attitude
I received a homemade knitted present recently, but I didn't know what it was. It was too small for a trivet, too big for a hand towel, and too pretty for a dust cloth. I was polite to the gift giver, and I appreciated her hard work and thoughtfulness. I was general with my thanks, as I didn't want to appear ignorant of what the unknown present was for.
It shouldn't be difficult to be grateful, no matter the gift. It's the thought and caring that went into the present, that should be the focus. I admit I am not always quick with my thanks to the Lord, for all He has done. Just waking up in the morning is a gift. Being outside and witnessing His nature is a treasure.
Psalm 100 is a psalm titled "For giving grateful praise." (NIV) You can't get any clearer than that! So before the day's demands interrupt my grateful thoughts, I take this moment with you, to declare our thanks to the Lord, as originally uttered by psalmist David.
"Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyous songs. Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations." (Psalm 100 NIV)
