[CF Devotionals] 2018-12-24 - A Blessing Box

- - - - - - -

Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits (Psalm 103:1-2 NIV)

For my birthday, a friend gave me a blessing box. It's a decorative box with a cover and a set of new, lined index cards inside. The premise is that whenever I recognize a “blessing,” I write it on one of the index cards and place it inside the box. Then, once a year, I read them, to reminisce on the Lord's faithfulness. I loved the idea, and have written out three blessings that I don't want to forget. I admit that surely God has blessed me more than three times, so I decided to move the box where I can see it daily, and hopefully use it more consistently.

I am thankful for my friend and her blessing box. It's as if God knew how I needed a gentle push, a reminder to not forget His benefits.

I've heard, countless times, that the family dinner hour is precious. It's a valuable time to catch up, communicate, and strengthen relationships. Please enlighten me about how to achieve this family unity and bond, when my daughter doesn't want to share about her day, except that someone in class cried for not winning the spelling bee - or that she got a cupcake for celebrating a classmate's birthday.

Now I am grateful for these insights and conversation starters, but trying to get insights about her and her day is not enjoyable, more like a chore. So tonight, I am going to put the decorative blessing box in the middle of the dinner table, and see what conversations blossom because of it. I am believing that the blessing box will be filled, in no time. I can't wait to hear the places my family saw God today.

Lord, May I not neglect to see You today. Thank You for showing up in my life. In the name of Jesus' I pray, Amen.
