Luke 5:27-28 (NIV)--After this, Jesus went out and saw a tax collector by the name of Levi sitting at his tax booth. "Follow me," Jesus said to him; and Levi got up, left everything and followed him.

Levi was a tax collector. His job involved collecting taxes for the Roman authorities. Most men who held this job were dishonest and defrauded their fellow Jews. As a result, they were distrusted and detested. Tax collectors were avoided whenever possible.

Jesus knew all of this when he called Levi to follow him and Levi probably knew about Jesus too. Jesus had become popular for his teaching and healing. Jesus came to Levi's tax booth--his place of business. Jesus' actions were public and visible for all to see. Levi had to make a decision. Luke tells us that "Levi got up, left everything and followed him." Levi's life changed forever.

Is Jesus asking you to change something in your life - a relationship, an attitude, a church, hobby, a job? Will you let him change your life forever?
