[CF Devotionals] 2018-02-17 - Hope in the Lord

- - - - - - -

Psalm 31:24 Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the LORD.

King David composed Psalm 31 while facing a powerful conspiracy against his leadership. The NIV commentary says that David's friends abandoned him during this open rebellion. David was faced with a crisis. To whom would he turn? This psalm shows that David repeatedly called on God. David put his trust in the Lord.

When Jesus was on the cross, he too faced a crisis. To whom would he turn at this terrible time? According to Luke 23:46, Jesus applied Psalm 31:5 to his situation. Jesus quoted David saying, "Into your hands, I commit my spirit; redeem me, O LORD, the God of truth." Jesus turned to his Heavenly Father for help and relief; he put his trust in the Lord.

What crisis are you facing today? Is it physical, financial, or spiritual? Have your friends left you? Does your situation appear hopeless? David went through a similar time. He turned to God. He put his hope in the Lord. We can follow his example, and put our trust in God. He will never abandon us.
