2018-01-27 - Ambassadors for Christ
Luke 9:2 And he sent them out to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.
Several times in the Gospels, we find examples of Jesus sending his disciples out into the cities and countryside. What was their task? In Luke 9:1-6, Jesus dispatched his 12 closest disciples to "preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick." Their mission was a success. As a result, Herod, the ruler of the area, wanted to know what was happening. In the next chapter of Luke, Jesus sent out 72 disciples on a similar assignment. Again, the disciples' mission to preach the Good News and to heal the sick was a great success. The 72 returned "with joy."
What about us today? We are still called to be Christ's representatives to others. Paul says, "We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us." (2 Corinthians 5:20) How does God want to use us as His ambassadors in today‘s world? We are to spread the Good News of Jesus, telling others of what Jesus has done for us. Sometimes we get hung up on what words to say, but if we just make it personal by sharing what He has done for US, we have done our job. Will you share Jesus with others?
