2017-12-30 - A New Beginning
2 Corinthians 5:17 ''Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!"
The celebrations of New Year's Eve and New Year's Day are right around the corner. Many of us will make New Year's resolutions promising to start new habits or to modify current ones. We resolve to eat better, exercise more, read the Bible daily, treat others better, and be a different person in the coming year. Gyms will experience sudden growth in membership, but within a month, that increase will drop by over 90 percent. Resolutions, no matter how well-intended, are broken and forgotten. The new year comes and goes. The chance to start over has passed.
As Christians, we have a chance to start over in our lives, too. When we accepted Christ as our Lord and Savior, we started over. As Paul says in the above verse, "If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation." Our sins are forgiven. We have an opportunity to begin again. But as human beings, we still continue to break God's laws and sin. We know that God gives us the chance to start over each day. Each day, we have the ability to confess our sins and ask for forgiveness, because we are God's new creations.
