There is a stomach bug going around my daughter's school and she caught it. It attacked her body out of the blue and thankfully she's now on the mend. As a result of this sickness she has to eat a bland diet. While my daughter complains about this, she understands the reason behind the dull-tasting foods and reluctantly eats another bite of dry toast.
At least my daughter won't have to eat honey wafers for 40 years like the Israelites did! The Israelites were traveling in the wilderness, hungry and without food. God provided for His people, just not in the way they wanted. "Yet he gave a command to the skies above and opened the doors of the heavens; he rained down manna for the people to eat, he gave them the grain of heaven. Human beings ate the bread of angels; he sent them all the food they could eat." (Psalm 78:24-25)
The Israelites complained even though it was the perfect food for them. Day after day God's provision became monotonous. It's so hard to do what's best when its boring or difficult. The people had to endure. How often do we despise the one thing God intends for our good?
Lord, You are the One I turn to. You are the only One with the true solution. May I go beyond my feelings and the discomfort and trust You. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
