Genesis 12:1-3

Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, and announced the gospel in advance to Abraham: “All nations will be blessed through you.” So those who rely on faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith. (Galatians :8-9)

God gave Abraham specific instructions to follow. If you do this, you'll get … Like a logical math equation, how could one say no? Put emotions and reasoning in the mix, and a dilemma forms. Do you follow God, or play it safe and comfortable in the familiar?

God told Abraham to leave his country, friends, family, and home and move to a new land. If Abraham did, God promised to make Abraham a blessing and a great nation, and his name would be great. God would bless those who blessed Abraham, and curse his enemies.

Abraham didn't appear indecisive. He did what God said. At 75, he started over. Abraham was fortunate he knew God's will. Many times, I'm not given a specific outline of what God wants me to do; my directives are more the vague variety. Both ways require faith to obediently let go and move to something mysterious and unknown.

Abraham could have been selfish and not listened to God's voice, or taken on the responsibility. We all benefit from Abraham's obedience. God said all people on Earth would be blessed, due to Abraham's actions.

Lord, Help me to hear and obey Your voice. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.

Ephesians 6:13 "Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand."

As Christians, we encounter many trials and difficulties in our journey through life. Life is not easy. What do we use, to help us get through these tough times? Ephesians 6:13-17 tells us that we have been equipped with special gear, "the full armor of God", to help us in our struggles. First, we have the "belt of truth" wrapped around our waist - God's word, which we should study daily. Next, we wear the "breastplate of righteousness" to protect us; we are covered in God's righteousness. Then we are told that our feet are "fitted with readiness that comes with the gospel of peace." Fourth, we have a "shield of faith" to protect us from "the flaming arrows of the evil one." Let's ask God to strengthen our faith. We also have "the helmet of salvation," our saving faith - and the "sword of the Spirit," the guidance of the Holy Spirit, which comes through God's word, the advice of mature and wise Christians, for example.

So, we are provided with a full uniform of protection. From head to toe, we are covered with God's armor. When we face the enemy's attacks, we are equipped to withstand these assaults. As Paul encourages us to do so, we are to be ready to stand our ground.

Do you have your equipment on?

Lord, Before I do something rash, grant me wisdom in my decision-making skills. May I wait for you to defend me. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
