2017-11-18 - Preparing for Thanksgiving
Matthew 15:37 -They all ate and were satisfied."
As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, we are busy preparing for traveling, cooking, eating, and cleaning. We have long grocery lists, to make sure that we have everything that we will need. We get out our best dishes and silverware ahead of time. We don't want to get to the Thanksgiving meal and realize that we have forgotten something.
Several times in the Gospels, Jesus asks his disciples to feed large groups of people. These crowds have traveled long distances to hear Jesus, and have neglected to bring food. Jesus instructs his disciples to feed the crowds, but the disciples don't have the food or supplies to feed such vast throngs of people. Jesus takes what little food that is available, prays, and multiplies the resources. Jesus provides for their needs.
This Thanksgiving, while we are busy preparing, we should take time to remember that Jesus still provides for our needs. Jesus will help us not only with our physical needs, but also our spiritual needs. Jesus came to be part of his creation, to redeem us from our sins. He paid the price so that we are able to eat and be satisfied, with food for both our bodies and spirits.
Every day, we should be thanking God for his gifts.
