[Calvary Chapel] 2017-10-04 - The Priority of Prayer

- - - - - - -

“We tend to use prayer as a last resort, but God wants it to be our first line of defense. We pray when there's nothing else we can do, but God wants us to pray before we do anything at all.

Most of us would prefer, however, to spend our time doing something that will get immediate results. We don't want to wait for God to resolve matters in His good time because His idea of 'good time' is seldom in sync with ours.”

Oswald Chambers

I hope if you don't know who Oswald Chambers was (and still is) and his wife, too. She took her Minister husband's notes and turned them into 30 books after he crossed over to Heaven. The most popular is still in print named, My Utmost for His Highest. It is a morning and evening devotional that will be 100 years old next month.

This is a point I've tried to make before, he makes it so succinctly that I offer it to you tonight.

So very true in my life that I have to be after myself to put prayer first, even if it is only like Peter. "Lord, save me!" Matthew 14:29-31 Please join me if you have that leaning to fix it all yourself, or run headlong into the day in the morning. We can agree in prayer together. Blessings, one and all.

Lord, Let us encourage one another to meet with You. Draw us into to spend time to let You order our day. Thank You Jesus, for everything You do for us that we miss. Open our eyes so that we know how grateful we should be. Amen.

Grace & Peace,
Mike
