2017-08-28 - Our Burden Breaker
For some of us, battling weight and/or focusing on food is all we have ever known. It may plague our daily existence: wondering what we should wear, praying an outfit fits, contemplating what to eat, and avoiding mirrors at all costs. Mephibosheth had a negative self-image of himself too-even though he was a descendant of the first king of Israel. He focused on his weaknesses, instead of the whole picture.
How often do we respond to good news like that? Hesitant that there is a catch involved, or uneasy, expecting something to go wrong instead of praising God and enjoying what He has done? It’s hard not to be cautious when we have had bad experiences in the past. It is difficult to be optimistic in the midst of trying another diet, reading another low-fat cookbook, or attempting another exercise routine. What will make these changes different? By making the Lord as our ultimate trainer.
When the task seems challenging or overwhelming, God will not leave us. May we daily hold onto Isaiah 41, which tells us that the Lord is our strength and helpmate. "I have called you back from the ends of the earth, saying, ‘You are my servant.’ For I have chosen you and will not throw you away. Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand." (verses 9-10 NLT)
