[Calvary Chapel] 2017-08-10 - Encouraging Works

- - - - - - -

Ephesians 2:10 (AMP) For we are His workmanship [His own master work, a work of art], created in Christ Jesus [reborn from above–spiritually transformed, renewed, ready to be used] for good works, which God prepared [for us] beforehand [taking paths which He set], so that we would walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us].

Read that passage again - slowly and digest each word. Many of us have read these thoughts a thousand times. It is easy to become too familiar with something and miss the new jewel that God is ready for us to see, if we will look. I specifically chose the Amplified version because of the emphasis generated by the additional wording supplied. "ready to be used" is a good example. There are a lot of believers who don't think they could witness to someone. They're afraid they will mess it up, or worse they had a bad experience trying.

I was talking with a friend of mine. I had commented on something and used a technical term in explaining something. Her response to that was that I was so smart. The implication to me was that she could never be that smart. I paused for a moment. I heard whispered to my heart - that she does very well what the Lord had created her to do. I work in Information Technology and do enjoy it and learning new things. She works with animals and does things I would never dream of doing. I asked her not to sell herself short, and I would say the same thing to others.

God created us "for good works". Those works were prepared beforehand - before time began! (Rev 13:8) Those works are part of God's plan. My friend is doing exactly what she was created to do, and she's really good at it. This is where her heart is drawn. She now sees that this is God's plan and He will use her in this area. I'm not sure if her heart my be being worked on right now to do more with her passion that might affect other people for her Lord.

You never know what God might have just around the corner.

We are each created as a master work by God for His purposes. Value whatever it is that you love to do. I am encouraged by that unplanned (on my part) encounter. Because I did not dismiss what God placed on my heart to open her eyes to the value of what she does, she is also encouraged. Could it have gone wrong? Not if God's hand is on it and we obey His call.

Selah.

Lord Jesus, Thank You for the opportunity recently to share with my friend. In that work we were both encouraged. You see us so much better than we often see ourselves and know far better what You made us to be and what we are able to do. You tell us to encourage one another. Why has never been clearer to me. Thank You for showing us such amazing love and grace as we walk Your path. Amen.

Grace & Peace,
Mike
