2017-07-03 - Wasting Time
Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. (Psalm 91:1)
The instructions in Psalm 91:1 seem black and white, similar to a math equation. If x does y, it gets/equals something. If a person dwells with God then the person rests in God's shadow. Our human part is straight forward-we are to hang out with the Most High and then we get to rest and experience God's protection.
The first step of the process is ours. We have to hang out with God. We do the first action. God is readily available, we have to show up. It seems easy, but there are times we don't spare a few quiet minutes with God. There is so much vying for our attention, that God's an easy afterthought, a quick prayer before we chow down, or a short prayer in the driveway before tackling the roadway traffic. We do a lot of asking and talking, but not a lot of dwelling in God's' presence.
We have to take a moment away from the hustle and bustle, and give the Creator of time, our time and attention. The rewards of this deliberate act of spending time with God are worth it. We can rest in God's protection. We are safe when we are with God. Peace keeps us company.
So the next time we're bombarded with to-do lists, put them on the back burner for a few moments, take time to be with God, and receive the benefits from a Godly father.
Lord, Spending time with You is never a waste of time. How refreshing it is to spend time with You. Let it be a habit I enjoy and stick to. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
