2017-06-24 - Listening to Jesus
Psalm 90:12 Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
We frequently hear about the need to have our priorities in order. Books, seminars, and college courses teach the importance of setting goals and following through on achieving them. We often make to-do lists with the most important items at the top. Job performance evaluations rate us on how well we have achieved our companies' objectives.
How well have we achieved GOD'S priorities? Do we have God in mind, when we work on our to-do lists? What role does God play in our lives? In Psalm 90, Moses tells us that we need to take advantage of each day, to learn God's priorities and to serve Him. Jesus tells us in Mark 12:28-31 what God's priorities are for us. First, we are to "love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength." The second priority is to love your neighbor as yourself." If we follow God's priorities, we will "gain a heart of wisdom." In other words, we will become wise.
As we go through our to-do lists for today, let us think about God's priorities for our lives. May we please Him with our efforts.
