When David was being pursued by enemies, he paused to write what is now the 143rd Psalm. In his plea for help and mercy, he thought about the "good 'ole days." David remembered happier times, when God had caused his efforts to prosper. David looked back at God's protection and guidance. He asked God to continue watching over him.
When we run into difficulties today, we, too, can think about the "good 'ole days." We can look back and remember God's love for us. He sent His Son to die for our sins, and He also sent the Holy Spirit to guide us. We have his written Word to instruct us, and it's available for free, 24/7. We can think about the instances in our lives when God has provided for us and protected us, and be encouraged by them. We can remember times when He walked with us through difficulties. As we consider God's actions in the past, we can look forward to His continuing love and mercy, in our present difficulties. We can always turn to Him.
What are some examples from your life, of when God helped you through a difficult time?
