2017-05-06 - Following Him
Luke 5:11 "So they pulled their boats up on the shore, left everything and followed him."
Simon Peter worked hard to make a living as a fisherman. As a result, Simon Peter and his brother Andrew frequently fished all night long. On one such day, a stranger appeared as the brothers were hanging up their nets, just after dawn. They hadn't caught a single fish, and were tired and discouraged. This man told them to go back out and fish at a place that he would show them. Simon Peter and Andrew got into their boats, put out their nets, and caught so many fish that their nets began to break and their boats began to sink. The fisherman were scared. The stranger, Jesus, said, "Don't be afraid; from now on you will catch men." (Luke 5:10) Then Peter and Andrew got out of their boats, left everything that they owned behind, and followed Jesus.
Today, Jesus is still calling us to follow Him. Just like Simon Peter and Andrew, we are called to obey Jesus. Leave our sins behind and "catch men (people)." Is Jesus calling you today? What are you willing to leave behind, to follow Him?
