2017-04-17 - Strong Love
For what I received, I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, (1 Corinthians 15:3-4)
As a youngster, my Easters were filled with colorful eggs, the Easter bunny, and chocolate. I sat in Sunday school, listening how Easter was the day to celebrate Jesus' place in Heaven, and then colored a picture of what we imagined Jesus looked like. The darkness, agony, and pain of Good Friday was glossed over. Perhaps the teachers were trying to protect our young minds from the gruesomeness of the life-changing event.
Now that I am older, I am more aware of the impact Jesus' crucifixion means to us, the human race. Easter isn't just a marketing ploy to get consumers to buy artificially colored candy and spring-themed toys. It's a celebration to commemorate Jesus' miraculous sacrifice, His death for our life. We get a chance at Heaven through Jesus' blood and the Lord's forgiveness. Jesus loved us more than the hurt, isolation, and rejection He felt on the cross. This act of selflessness made our slates clean. What a mighty God we serve!
Lord, May I see something new and different about Easter, this holy day. I am truly thankful that You loved me enough to save me. Please continue to guide me in the decisions I make and the places I go. Thank You, Lord. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
