2017-02-06 - In the Limelight and Loving It
The miracle of Jesus walking on water is found in three of the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, and John). Only Matthew’s account mentions Peter’s trip on the water. While the other disciples were present, we only hear Peter speaking with Jesus. Out of the 12, Peter is in the spotlight.
Personally, I don’t like being in the spotlight. Perhaps that is why writing suits me. I cringed every time I had to present in high school public speaking class. I enjoyed pretending I was an actress, from the privacy of my bedroom, that is. While I am not the life of a party, or one who finds it easy to start a conversation with a stranger, there is a time I feel comfortable being the center of attention, thanks to the Lord.
God’s attention is always on you and me. There is no need to shy away from His interest. Jesus sets us apart, not by our own merit or achievements, but because of His love for us.
My natural impulse is to avoid the limelight; but I have learned to crave the Lord’s applause. It confirms that I am doing His will and headed toward my destiny. I can have confidence God has my best interest at heart.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11)
Lord, I am blessed when I seek You. I am so privileged to have access to You. I pray for those who don’t have that luxury. May I not take my freedoms for granted. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
