2017-02-03 - A Fresh Start
There have been times when I've stepped out in faith, only to find the situation not as rosy as I imagined. I wrongly blamed God, and wondered why He led me to this new place. The Israelites did the same thing. They blamed Moses for leading them out of bondage. The Israelites thought they were home free, until they saw an army of Egyptians confronting them. Then they complained. Moses didn't feed into their fear. He told them "Do not be afraid. Stand firm, and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today, you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” (Exodus 14:13-14)
Right after Moses’ pep talk, God told Moses how to win against the Egyptians' attack. Moses and the Israelites obeyed and were saved. After witnessing God's miraculous safety plan, the Israelites believed in the Lord and trusted Moses as their leader.
The Lord will fight for me. I only have to stand still. To God, it appears standing still is easy. That's the only thing the Israelites needed to do, for the Lord to save them. Why is it hard for us humans to stand still, to give up control? Because our faith is in the unseen, the invisible. We have to make the gutsy decision to not move, and to let God do His job as our faithful Father.
I know, Lord, You go to bat for me and are always available, but why don't You use the easiest way? Please help me have confidence that Your world view is for my best, and will bring You glory. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
