2017-01-28 - Get into the Boat
Mark 6:45-46 (NIV)--Immediately Jesus made his disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to Bethsaida, while he dismissed the crowd. After leaving them, he went up on a mountainside to pray.
After miraculously feeding over five thousand people with just two fish and five loaves of bread, Jesus instructed his disciples to get in a boat, and to leave him behind to pray. The disciples obeyed Jesus and began rowing across the lake. The twelve must have wondered how Jesus was going to catch back up with them on the other side of the lake. Did he have another boat? Who would row him? When would he join them? What were they to do when they got to the other side of the lake? Despite their doubts and questions, they obeyed Jesus and got into the boat.
Today, Jesus calls us to obey him and do certain things. He calls us to follow him, to feed the poor, to keep his commandments, and to go treat each other with fairness and justice. We may wonder how or when we are to do what he commands. Just like the disciples, we are to trust Jesus and do as he says. We are to act in faith and get into the boat.
