[Calvary Chapel] 2016-12-01 - Welcome to Our World

The first time I was able to sit down and really listen to the lyrics there were tears running down my cheeks. The music was soft and so appropriate. The lyrics told the tale of the world at the time of Jesus' birth. In the same breath it told the daily story we see today.

It has been said, and it seems plausible, that if we could take all of the military budgets of the world, hunger could be eliminated in a very short time. Because of the differences that separate people one from another the math may add up, but the funds will not be redirected to more positive purposes.

How we need to hear from God

Back in the days probably just after Jesus' birth the Jewish leaders had a problem. The scriptures state that the scepter would not be removed from Israel before Messiah came (Gen 49:10). He was to be the great leader they and many others were expecting had not come. The Roman Empire had removed sovereign rule from Israel by taking capital punishment from them. Messiah had indeed come but had not been recognized.

Jesus came and broke Heaven's 400 year silence. He came and told the world that God loved them. He healed the sick and lame, poured grace and mercy on anyone who would believe. He forgave the woman caught in adultery. She did not dispute her own guilt, but Jesus told her to go and sin no more. He raised the daughter of Jarius, and Lazarus from death. This is a picture of His resurrection and ours!

He fed the hungry and calmed to storm. Jesus crushed the power of death and sin on the third day - the first Easter Sunday.

But, before any of that could happen, the Son veiled His omnipotent power in human flesh and was born like you and me. He came as promised so we could hear from God. He has given His children the grace and mercy that brings peace to our hearts and feeds our souls even in trying times.

John 1:14 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Selah.

Welcome to Our World

Tears are falling, hearts are breaking
How we need to hear from God
You've been promised, we've been waiting
Welcome Holy Child
Welcome Holy Child

Hope that You don't mind our manger
How I wish we could have known
But long-awaited Holy Stranger
Make Yourself at home
Please make Yourself at home

Bring Your peace into our violence
Bid our hungry souls be filled
Word now breaking Heaven's silence
Welcome to our world
Welcome to our world

Fragile finger sent to heal us
Tender brow prepared for thorn
Tiny heart whose blood will save us
Unto us is born
Unto us is born

Lord Jesus - Thank You for coming to pour light into a very dark world. You came because You love us to make a way for us to live forever with You. Amen.

Grace & Peace,
Mike
