As I was preparing today's devotional, our area was placed under a Tornado Watch by the National Weather Service. The weather radar showed that strong storms potentially containing tornadoes were headed our way. As my wife, Jan, and I awaited the oncoming severe weather it reminded me that we face storms in life. Sometimes we see these storms coming, and other times we have no warning.
As the storms approached, we reminded ourselves that our house was firmly built and rested on a sound foundation. Similarly, when storms approach our daily lives, we can rely on a sturdy foundation grounded by our faith in God. We are reminded of the parable of the wise and foolish builders found in Matthew 7:24-27. Jesus tells us that we need to be have our faith built on the foundation of His Word. How do we obtain this firm foundation? Some ways we do this are by trusting in Him as our Lord and Savior, by following His instructions, by reading His Word, by gathering with fellow believers to glorify Him in worship, and by talking to Him every day in prayer.
Today, Jan and I survived the severe weather which included a tornado warning, a severe thunderstorm warning, thunder, lightning, and very heavy rain. With God's help, we can also make it through the storms of daily life.
