I am not good at waiting. Whether waiting in a crowded doctor’s office, waiting for a repairman at home, or waiting for God’s answer to prayer–I sometimes lack patience. In Ephesians 4:2 (NIV), Paul tells us to “be patient.” In 2 Corinthians 1:6, Paul reminds us that we are to be patient during times of suffering.
We have often heard the saying “Patience is a virtue.” Proverbs 29:1 says that “A patient man has great understanding.” And, in 1 Corinthians 13:4, Paul tells us that “Love is patient.”
One of the founding fathers of our country even had a remark on patience: "Nothing gives one person so much advantage over another, as to remain always cool and unruffled under all circumstances."-- Thomas Jefferson
There are numerous examples of patience in the Bible. For example, sometimes we say that someone has the patience of Job. Over the next several weeks, we will be looking a patient men and women in the Bible. Hopefully, we will learn from their examples.
