2016-06-10 - I See the Rain
My hometown, since I was seventeen is a city in a valley surrounded by part of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Just about any time you are moving about the area, you can look and see some of the gorgeous mountains. Sometimes, though, there are rainstorms that move through the valley, as well. Very often, it will be sunny in one place, and you can see rain starting somewhere else. Many times I have seen rain as it developed in the early stages, and even have seen which way it was moving next, which occasionally has caused me to alter my drive and make it home before the storm hit at our house. Wouldn’t it be nice, if avoiding storms in our life was as easy as paying attention? Actually, it is that simple.
Now avoiding storms doesn’t mean we will never end up in one. However, there are some we can avoid, when we know about them. Following his commandments will ultimately keep us from harm and sadness, while we are here on our journey. Proof of that statement comes when not following the commands. Stealing, for example, can cause you to lose a job, have to pay fines and even go to jail. Not stealing allows us to work honestly to have what we need, as well as to be able help others. So when we have guidelines, it doesn’t guarantee we won’t have storms; however, it does give us a chance to avoid some big rains coming, if we pay attention.
“Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.” (Ephesians 4:28)
