2016-07-15 - Be Careful
Recently I have heard two different preachers and teachers that I respect, misstating scriptural details. Normally, a small detail wouldn't matter, except when that mistaken detail is used as a major point in their teaching. I realize that we are all human and make mistakes, but I'd like to take some time to encourage all of us to really read the scripture for ourselves, and study it, because sometimes people will make mistakes - and we don't want to go around compounding the mistakes, by saying the Bible says what someone mistakenly said the Bible said.
Luke evidently thought this was a great trait in believers, as he commended one church for doing it, and called out another church for not doing it.
Acts 17:11-12 (NIV)
Before, I have mistakenly attributed one statement to the wrong verse, and also have gotten books confused and said a book name that doesn't even exist in the Bible, like Second Deuteronomy or the like. We all make mistakes, but it is a bigger mistake to not study the word for ourselves.
Study the message your pastor speaks on this week and don't settle for being spoon-fed.
