[CF Devotionals] 2016-05-04 - Unexpected Beauty

- - - - - - -

Spring is many things. For some, it means the beginning of their allergy season; for some it means beautiful sights and smells. For others, it means more work outdoors; for others, it means the beginning of a new sports season - and sometimes spring is just a reminder of new beginnings. While adoring the colors and smells of the new spring season, I have also seen some unexpected beauty. The allure and elegance of new life sometimes finds its way to spots like construction areas, tractor trailer docks, abandon warehouses, rundown old houses, and even next to a junkyard or a compost pile. I noticed flowers and baby green leaves in a few of the aforementioned zones. I know it was no accident those two words (unexpected beauty) came into my mind each time, as those ironic scenes came together. God brings the unexpected, literally and figuratively, to one place so we can see the power of His majesty. In turn, he gives us the opportunity, upon knowing this, to allow the same thing to happen in ordinary moments in our lives, too. Don’t miss a chance to allow something extraordinary to grow from you, and be planted into someone else.

“One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in his temple.” (Psalm 27:4)

“And let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it.” (Psalm 90:17)

“I will be as the dew unto Israel: he shall grow as the lily, and cast forth his roots as Lebanon. His branches shall spread, and his beauty shall be as the olive tree, and his smell as Lebanon. They that dwell under his shadow shall return; they shall revive as the corn, and grow as the vine: the scent thereof shall be as the wine of Lebanon.” (Hosea 14:5-7)
