2016-04-20 - Refreshed
There is a difference between being refreshed and overtaken. One day when I was swimming, there was an unfortunate moment of water going up my nose, as I simultaneously inhaled. Such a wonderful experience (she said sarcastically). I had been struggling with dealing with the other swimmers around me, and was caught off guard. I have never been a big fan of the nose plugs for swimming - yet at that moment, I was beginning to wish I weren’t so adamant about it.
The next week, after spending more time working on moving through the water, with my focus in a different place and a plan of action in the event of water variations, I felt like I was being refreshed rather than overtaken. The cool water was somehow warming my soul. I imagine that to be what is going on as the Holy Spirit flows through a receptive heart and mind. God wants us to find relief from his presence, and not as though we are being invaded. However, we must invite him in, so the most good can come from his being there. It amazes me how much different the water in the pool feels, when I approach it in a completely relaxed state of mind. That state of mind and heart is what God wants us to feel, no matter what comes our way. I’m so grateful for such a caring Father who provides comfort.
“But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.” (John 16:13 NIV)
