2016-03-31 - What We Offer
Rev 22:17 The Spirit and the bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who wishes take the water of life without cost.
The Holy Spirit is referred to as the third person in the Trinity - God in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The church, consisting of all people who have accepted Jesus Christ - the Son - as their Savior and Lord, is often referred to as the bride of Christ. There are plenty of debates over this. Let's not get bogged down in that right now.
The Spirit calls to anyone who will hear, "Come." He is calling to them pointing any who come to Jesus' salvation - mercy and grace forgiveness of sin and eternal life with God after this life. As the bride we are to reflect the love of God our Savior, and so we also say, "Come."
The culture becomes more and more hostile to Christianity. Governments and terrorist organizations target Christians. Sometimes this is the subtle eroding of values or denial of support in the face of persecution. At other times it is far more direct. And all the while we hold the answers to the questions that are asked. The answer is refused.
And still it should be our desire to continue to reflect the love of God to a world in need. The world is lost in the collection of things and pleasure. In that maelstrom blindness to the importance of values, kindness, patience and other people become lost. And still we should call out, "Come."
There are things that the culture has accepted that fly in the face of Christianity. Political correctness stifles the discussion and calls anything that disagrees with it "hate speech." It is cowardly refusal to discuss wanting its way refusing to listen with an open mind. In some cases we are at fault with angry words and frustration that do not carry the heart we should bring to the table. The effort is to make our offer so uncomfortable to present or intolerable to hear that we will fall silent and fade away.
Are we fading? Some would say yes. The love that Jesus Christ has shared with us and we are to share with others is the medicine the world needs. We have the cure. Will we stop we stop echoing, "Come.", to those around us?
Lord - please refine us - help us to be perfect mirrors reflecting Your love, mercy, and grace to a world that needs You desperately. Help us to know the courage wrapped in your heart to show others we are Your children by the love we have for our brothers and sisters in Your family. Teach us to be lights in dark places and times offering something those around us want. Amen.
Grace & Peace,
