2016-03-25 - Top Ten Verses
Verse One & Two
About a year ago, I was challenged on Facebook to post one verse per day and to challenge two friends per day to also do the challenge. If I'm honest I was tempted to just spout off seven quickly and be done but I shied away and came up with my top ten passages; some are verses that are at the core of a bigger passage. If I were to really sit and think hard this top ten could be shrank to seven but I wound up posting ten. I thought I'd take the next few weeks to share them with you.
- Number 1
John 11:35 - Jesus wept.
This is hands-down my favorite verse. It is short enough that even I have no problem remembering it - but more than powerful enough to let me know that I serve a God who cares enough to be with us (with me), and to cry with us in our tougher moments.
- Number 2
Jeremiah 20:9 (NKJV)
Then I said, “I will not make mention of Him,
Nor speak anymore in His name.”
But His word was in my heart like a burning fire
Shut up in my bones;
I was weary of holding it back,
And I could not.
I ran across this verse a few years ago, and it began to hold a lot of meaning for me because of my vision for youth ministry. I have felt God leading me to speak to people, and I've held back, only to have it burn in me like Jeremiah describes; I do not want to let it stay in. I've wanted to preach on it often, and have studied it a lot, but I have never felt the guidance of God to yet speak on it.
Until next time.
All verses are from the King James Version (KJV) unless otherwise noted.
