2015-12-28 - What would Jehoshaphat Say?
"O our God, won’t you stop them? We have no way to protect ourselves against this mighty army. We don’t know what to do, but we are looking to you.” (2 Chronicles 20:12 TLB)
I was given some horrible news. We were being attacked. Instead of dwelling on this fact, I went to God, which led to a fast all over Judah. What a sight to behold - people from all over Judah, seeking the Lord. What must that look like from Heaven?
I spoke a prayer, reminded God that He gave the land to the descendants of Abraham, and whatever calamity came upon us, that we would call to Him in our distress. God would save us. I wanted God to judge our attackers. All we knew to do was wait on the Lord.
Although we were at war, we were not to be fearful or discouraged, for the battle's not ours but God's. We're to march against our enemies, and take our position against them. Once we stand firmly, we'll see God deliver us. As we went to confront our enemy, I had a brave chorus singing the Lord's praises. We never had to fight, as the Lord caused our attackers to fight each other instead of us. Amazing.
We returned home happy and joyous, and went to God's temple to celebrate how good the Lord is. When other lands heard our story, no one wanted to mess with us. I love being at peace and content, knowing there are friends surrounded at all sides. It makes my job easier.
Lord, Jehoshaphat trusted You and expected You to do something in a specific way. I, too, mediate on his words. “Believe in the Lord your God, and you shall have success! Believe his prophets, and everything will be all right!” (v22)
