[Calvary Chapel] 2015-12-24 - All Wondered

- - - - - - -

Luke 2:17-20 When they had seen this, they made known the statement which had been told them about this Child. 18 And all who heard it wondered at the things which were told them by the shepherds. 19 But Mary treasured all these things, pondering them in her heart. 20 The shepherds went back, glorifying and praising God for all that they had heard and seen, just as had been told them.

They are the shepherds keeping their flocks outside Jerusalem. They were greeted by a great number of angels who proclaimed that Messiah was born in the city of David nearby. The Jewish nation had waited for millennia for the promised Savior. Some had given up. These men had been given such incredible news that they could not contain themselves. They left their sheep and hurried to find the child.

They found Jesus in a manger with Mary and Joseph watching over Him. And here it begins. The shepherds told everyone who could hear what the angels had told them. God had fulfilled His promise to deliver His people. We know that He would reach out to the gentiles soon as well. Anyone who would accept the invitation would be welcome.

The shepherds left the new family to return to the fields and tend to their sheep. Even then they praised God for the news they had been given and events of the evening. Their lives had been changed. All who heard their story wondered at what they had heard.

Those of us who claim Jesus as our Savior and Lord have had our lives changed as well. We have good news to tell anyone who will listen. This time of year we celebrate His coming. He came to tell us and show us God loves us. He came to be the perfect sacrificial Lamb of God to free us from the chains of sin. He gave us the good news to share.

A Blessed and Merry Christmas.

Grace & Peace,
