2015-12-05 - Preparing the Way
Matthew 3:1-3 --In those days, John the Baptist came preaching in the Desert of Judea and saying,"Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near." This is he who was spoken of through the prophet Isaiah: "A voice of one calling in the desert, Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him."
John the Baptist was sent to prepare the way for Jesus. He preached a message of repentance, telling the people to get their hearts ready for the long-awaited Messiah. John's mission was one of preparation.
We are currently in the season of Advent, which is the time before Christmas. Advent is a period of time in which we look at the lives of those involved in the Christmas story. We consider Mary, Joseph, Zechariah, and Elizabeth. We think about the ministry of John the Baptist. The season culminates with the celebration of the birth of Jesus.
We are also in the season where we prepare for our own Christmas celebrations. We are planning menus, buying gifts, and readying for holiday visits and visitors. Sometimes the days before Christmas are a hectic time of the year.
Have you prepared your heart for Jesus? We don't have to wait until Christmas, to find Jesus. He is waiting for us to accept His offer of eternal life through the forgiveness of our sins. Jesus prepared the way for us, by His death on the Cross. If you haven't, will you accept Him today?
