2015-11-14 - Whom do You Say I am?
Matthew 16:15 "But what about you?" he asked. "Whom do you say I am?"
The disciples had been with Jesus for almost two years. They had seen hundreds, if not, thousands of miracles performed. These men had heard Jesus teach with profound wisdom. These followers had been sent on mission trips where the results were amazing. These twelve men had just seen Jesus feed 5,000 men with five loaves of bread and two fish. Now, Jesus had a question for them--"Whom do you say I am?"
His Disciples had a variety of answers. They replied that some people said that Jesus was John the Baptist or Elijah or Jeremiah, or one of the prophets. Then Jesus then asked them directly --"Whom do YOU say I am?"
Simon Peter stepped forward and said, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." (Matthew 16:16)
Peter recognized Jesus as the promised Messiah, the son of God, the Savior, and the Lord.
What about you? How would you reply to Jesus' question today? Who is He? Is he a good teacher? A moral man? A wise scholar? Or is He the Christ, the Son of the living God? Is he your Savior? Is He the Lord of your life? Just like Peter, we need to make a decision about Jesus. What about you? Whom do you say He is?
