2015-08-22 - Obeying the Law
Just as in Jesus' time, there are many laws that we are asked to obey; Christians should be at the front of the line, when it comes to obeying laws. We should be a good example. In Biblical times, the Romans had rules and regulations for the Jews in the Holy Land. Today, we are subject to federal, state, and local laws. We are supposed to know and obey them. The Old Testament contains God's laws for us to obey. One well-known example is the Ten Commandments. In fact, the Book of Leviticus is filled with God's laws.
A teacher of the Jewish law approached Jesus with a question about God's laws. In Mark 12:28, the teacher asked, "Of all the commandments, which is the most important?" Jesus responded, "The most important is … Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your min and with all your strength." Jesus also said that the second most important commandment is to "Love your neighbor as yourself."
When we follow these two commandments, we comply with the laws of our country, state, and locality, per Romans 13. Loving God, and loving our neighbors, enables us to live in harmony with others.
