As I sit in front of my computer tonight, I am drawing a blank on what to write about. I had one idea in mind, but just have no peace about it. Has that ever happened to you? You know exactly what you should do, and it's a good thing - but you just don't feel at ease about it. David once had a really good idea, too.
2 Samuel 7:1-7 And it came to pass, when the king sat in his house, and the LORD had given him rest round about from all his enemies; 2 That the king said unto Nathan the prophet, See now, I dwell in an house of cedar, but the ark of God dwelleth within curtains. 3 And Nathan said to the king, Go, do all that is in thine heart; for the LORD is with thee. 4 And it came to pass that night, that the word of the LORD came unto Nathan, saying, 5 Go and tell my servant David, Thus saith the LORD, Shalt thou build me an house for me to dwell in? 6 Whereas I have not dwelt in any house since the time that I brought up the children of Israel out of Egypt, even to this day, but have walked in a tent and in a tabernacle. 7 In all the places wherein I have walked with all the children of Israel spake I a word with any of the tribes of Israel, whom I commanded to feed my people Israel, saying, Why build ye not me an house of cedar?
David had a really good idea; he wanted to build a temple for God. Nathan also thought it was a good idea, but Nathan got no peace about it. You see, there are good ideas, and then there are God's ideas. God's are always better. Sometimes those good ideas are the devil's greatest tricks, for keeping us from God's best. The Bible says, in 2 Corinthians 11:14, that Satan may appear as an angel of light. In other words, Satan may come up with some good ideas. However, it is up to each of us to prayerfully discern whether those are good ideas or God's ideas.
We should always strive to do that which is in God's plans. We are each fearfully and wonderfully made, for a specific purpose. Let's remember that, seek out that purpose, and do it. Just remember, if you don't have peace about it, it could be the Holy Spirit tapping your shoulder or whispering in your ear. Listen - or you will fail.
