2015-07-02 - Remember Your Blessings
Psalm 103:2b And forget none of His benefits;
When life seems very stable it is easy to start taking things for granted. A good friend of mine found out today that his mother has stage four breast cancer. The average life expectancy after this diagnosis is roughly five years.
He needed to talk and I did a lot of listening. I only offered one real answer that he probably already knew was coming when he asked the question. I was simply reinforcement. Let's call him Mr A. I hope you will pray for him and his family and extended family and friends.
While I was listening I was stricken with the realization that Mr A was a handful of years younger than me, and that both my parents are still living this mortal life and in good health. For this I thanked God for that blessing on my life. Many of my friends from college and work have lost at least one parent. And because things were stable in my life I had taken this for granted.
It shook me a bit that I had been so oblivious.
Be mindful of your blessings. There are things that many of us have been given in the way of family and friends and material things. Being aware and thankful for them and their source from God is the least we can do. I encourage you to read all of Psalm 103 taking notice of verses 15 and 16. None of us is promised tomorrow, but God's love will stand forever.
Love, Give, Speak with actions. Selah.
Grace & Peace,
