Thou shalt not Commit Adultery - Exo 20:14

  1. The call to Purity
  2. Is the Issue of Moral Purity Relevant Today?
  3. The call to Holiness

“Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and
hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.”

“This mystery is profound,
and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church.”
Ephesians 5:31-32 ESV

Introduction: So, there are serious implications in this commandment. And while we may never be physically guilty, we may be guilty spiritually, as we sometimes put other things or people before the Lord. We also have to be careful that we are not guilty in our thought life, even if not in the physical one. But here, too, I think we will see as we approach this command from a positive point of view: It isn’t enough to not commit adultery, but instead, we must move toward God and toward our spouse.

There is no question that immorality is a major problem in this society. It is also clear this is a problem, even in the church. Any pastor who does marriage counseling inevitably runs into adultery in Christian marriages.
