Philippians 1:3-6 (NIV) I thank my God every time I remember you. 4 In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy 5 because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, 6 being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

Some of our readers live in areas where (in 2009) May 25th is celebrated as Memorial Day, wherein we honor those who have sacrificed their own physical lives, for us and others - to secure and protect freedom for people around the world. In fact, if not for soldiers who gave their all for us in the American Revolution, we in. America wouldn't even have the freedom of religion to write or read devotionals from this particular ministry - or any ministry, for that matter. I think that's something that's too often forgotten.

As does God's word, I believe that it's appropriate and laudable to honor those who have served and given "the ultimate sacrifice," in both our military and police forces - the latter of which is a much-misunderstood and thankless job. However I encourage you to also join me in also celebrating the lives saints who have positively affected our lives.

How about Sunday School teachers or mentors who guided us when we were youthful, or high school teachers whose love of their subjects whetted our appetites to learn? And what about friends who stuck by us in the difficult times, or relatives who loved us devotedly?

I hope you will join me in saying a prayer of thanks for their exemplary lives, and then join me, in trying to emulate them in our own continuing lives.

I would love to hear about the people that you memorialize, that God placed in your life at just the right moment, the ones who made a difference in your lives and futures.
