2015-04-13 - What Would David Say?
The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. (Psalm 23:1-4)
The Lord is a shepherd to His people. I lived my life as a shepherd, so I should know. It’s a fine occupation, but it’s even nicer to be a lamb, at least in my opinion. For one thing, it is a relief not to be in charge, for a change. There is someone taking care of you.
As a shepherd, the Lord makes everything peaceful. I don’t escape from the dark realities of life, but I’m protected. God makes me rest, not just my body, but my mind also rests and doesn’t worry.
I have to be in the Lord’s presence, to experience this comfort and protection. That personal connection comes from spending time with the Lord. He gathers us in His arms, and cares for us. The Lord stays when it’s hard. He doesn’t choose which moments; He hangs around for all of life’s experiences.
Lord, What reassurance to know that we can approach You at all times, and be welcomed and loved.
