2015-03-19 - New Perspective
As I walked through my sweet pup’s last days, I literally got down on the floor with him and made laps, as he felt the need to walk. In his case, it seemed to be a compulsive desire driven by what was ailing him. But for me, in part, it was to help keep him from bumping into furniture and walls - and also to look him in the eye, when he decided to stop in front of me.
I don’t know at what point - he may have then not been himself anymore - but I never failed to remind him, whenever possible, that I could “see him in there”. I would tell him I knew he was Louie Bourgeois Durrett, and not what had taken over his body illness-wise. I am not sure if it was for his benefit or my own, at a certain point, yet it was important to both of us, really, so I said it every time. I did get tired and dizzy making laps with him, but I never got tired of telling him he mattered to me. I am so grateful that my Lord never gets tired of caring for me or showering me with his blessings.
“But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.” (Matthew 10:30)
