2015-02-03 - Chasing Alligators
A good friend of mine recently told me about a territorial lizard that lived in her mother's yard. A plastic alligator was left in the area where he normally hung out, and this lizard decided to show him who was the boss. He puffed out his chest and strutted up in the alligator's face, waiting for his response. Nothing. So the plucky lizard backed up, puffed his chest again, and faced his nemesis yet again. Still no response! He wasted a lot of time on something that wasn't even real!
Isn't that how we sometimes live our Christian lives? We waste so much time thinking, worrying, fretting or stewing over "small potatoes" that mean little in the long run, and nothing at all in light of eternity. Meanwhile, we are poor stewards of our time and health, and it's all over things that really don't matter, anyway.
Ephesians 5:15-16a (NASB) Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, 16 making the most of your time.
I urge you to join me in asking God to help us focus on what many authors have called "$100 issues," rather than "nickel issues" - in other words, those that will stand the test of eternity.
