[CF Devotionals] 2014-11-17 - What Would Sarah Say?

- - - - - - -

Genesis 18:1-14, 21:1-7

Sarah said, "God has brought me laughter, and everyone who hears about this will laugh with me." (Genesis 21:6)

I spent a large portion of my life with an unmet desire. I wanted a child for my husband Abraham and me. When I thought that dream was to just be a dream, God finally stepped in, and I was with child.

I had to laugh. Wouldn't you? I mean, the idea of being pregnant at age 90 seemed absurd. I was well past the childbearing stage. That didn't stop the Lord from granting me my prayer, and we had a son. I named our baby Isaac, which meant laughing, to remind myself never to doubt again.

My life changed, the second Isaac was welcomed into the world - although I did not realize at the time how much life would be different.

Lord, It seems so unfair that the one desire I have I cannot receive. I know You aren't a God to keep any good thing from my reach, so why am I having to wait? Please take the desire away, if it is not Your will. Turn this pain into peace. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
