Today, we will look at the reluctant prophet, Jonah, who tried to run away from God. Jonah didn't want to follow God's call. He wouldn't go to the capital city of Assyria. After all, these Assyrians were the enemies of Israel, yet God wanted Jonah to go preach repentance to them. Jonah just wouldn't do it. He got on a ship, and fled in the other direction. God sent a great storm and a giant fish, to convince Jonah otherwise. And reluctantly, Jonah eventually went and preached to the Ninevites. Surprisingly, the inhabitants of Niveveh repented.
What is God calling you to do today? What are you reluctant to do? Is it to teach a Sunday school class, sing in the choir, or witness to the lost? How will you respond to God's call? Will you run away like Jonah, or will you trust in God's call, and rely on His guidance, to follow His beckoning?
