2014-07-26 - What Does God Want From Us?
Psalm 40:6 "Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but my ears you have pierced; burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not require."
Psalm 40 is a prayer for help by David. After praising God, David recommitted himself to doing God's will. In verse 6, David recognized what God wanted from him. God wanted David's obedience. Rather than sacrificial offerings, God wanted David's obedience. David acknowledges that God has pierced his ears. In David's time, a master pierced the ears of his servants, in order to show ownership of them. In other words, God had shown His ownership of David. God had made David His servant. David's life was to be lived in obedience to God.
How about us today? Do we live as if God owned us? Do we live a life of obedience to Him?
