2014-07-21 - What Would King David Say?
Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence, or take your Holy Spirit from me. (Psalm 51:10-11)
Being married with children, the last thing I would need was another woman in my life, but that is exactly what happened. I have no one to blame but myself. In some ways, that is the worst part.
Bathsheba was very beautiful. I could not take my eyes off her. That is no excuse, even for a powerful king like me. I sinned with Bathsheba, which led to a baby - and then I had her husband killed, to cover up the liaison. I eventually acted honorably, and Bathsheba became my wife.
The prophet Nathan spared no time, telling me my actions were foolish. Nathan let me know the Lord was displeased, and there would be consequences for my actions. Right then, I confessed my sin, and God forgave me. I was cleansed, and in right standing with the Lord.
I want others who have fallen onto the wrong path, to know about the goodness of God. When you humble yourself like I have done, you are forgiven and have such peace in your heart!
Lord, I do not want guilt weighing me down. Please forgive me
